Living Water Domestic Violence Shelter
Mission
To provide effective and accessible services to individuals and families who experience domestic violence and sexual assault, and to be a proactive and visible source of related intervention, education, and prevention services to the community.
Objective
To provide safe shelter at an undisclosed location and advocacy for victims and their children. To provide crisis intervention, safety/escape planning. To provide recovery education on pattern behaviors in order to assist victims in making future healthy choices for themselves and their children. To educate the community on the lasting effects of domestic abuse.
Philosophy
We believe that having trained advocates and staff within a supportive enviroment that is accessible as often as needed from the time of victimization throughout the criminal justice system and healing process, encourages surviors to find their resilience, identify the steps to recovery, and practice self-care.

Safety Planning Tips to Use Before and After Leaving an Abuser
1. Move to a room with easy access to an exit. Don't go to the kitchen, bathroom or near possible weapons.
2. Know the quickest route out of your home and practice escaping that way.
3. Know the quickest route out of your workplace and practice escaping that way. Domestic Violence does not just occur in your home.
4. Pack a bag and have it ready. Keep it hidden but make it easy to grab quickly.
5. Tell your neighbors about your abuse and ask them to call the police when they hear a disturbance.
6. Have a code word to use with your children, family, and friends. Upon hearing the code word they will know to call 911 and get help.
7. Know where you are going to go, even if you don't believe the violence will happen again.
8. Create a false trail. Call motels, real estate agencies, and schools in a town at least six hours away from where you plan to relocate. Ask questions that require a call back to your house in order to leave phone numbers on record.
9. Call the telephone company to request caller ID. Ask that your phone be blocked so that if you call, neither your partner nor anyone else will be able to get your new, unlisted phone number.
10. Use your instincts. Don't ingore them.
11. You have the right to protect yourself and your children.

Remember, there is always someone who can help you. You are never alone. You deserve to live a life free from violence.
